AP(not)MAs 2026 Preview: Your guide to the internet’s alternative music award show you don’t want to miss

Emo, pop-punk and alternative kids of the past, present and future, it is time to unite. AP(not)MAs 2026 is approaching quickly.

Have no clue what the AP(not)MAs are? You have arrived at the right place. Keep reading to learn about the history of this social media-fueled alternative music awards show, which may become your new favorite niche annual tradition.

Valerie, known as @valeriesvoice on TikTok, launched the award show in 2020 as a parody of the Alternative Press Music Awards (APMAs), which ran from 2014 to 2017. However, she added her own fun and unique twist to the concept. Instead of sticking to traditional categories like “Best Album” or “Song of the Year,” the awards presented categories like “White Boy of the Month of the Year,” “Best Fanbase Scandal” and “Lifetime Achievement Award: Honorary Member of the Scene.” (The categories fans actually care about).

From 2020 to now, the show has evolved from a simple fan survey to a full awards show. Over the last few years, it has not only grown in the number of voters, but also featured many guest presenters. Previous years have featured Awsten Knight, Thneed Girl, Bonnie Fraser of Stand Atlantic, Devin Papadol of Honey Revenge, Scene Queen, Thriller Records, Daisy Grenade, Punk Rock Saves Lives, Tate Logan of Idobi Radio and FEELSGOOD, As It Is and more.
