In case you need another reminder, do not skip the opener. Seriously, get to the concert early.

Bailey Spinn took the stage to get the crowd warmed up at the Roxy for the Lakewood, OH stop of Scene Queen’s Metalicious Tour on Sept. 19. She is currently opening for Scene Queen across the United States. The tour also features British duo Wargasm. 

Spinn stepped on stage with a smile and immediately captured the attention of the entire crowd. She took her place in front of the microphone, and when the first note filled our ears, she got to work getting the energy in the crowd going. 

Vocally, she sounded fantastic. The emotion behind her delivery was clear and magical. Whether the song was sad, angry or happy, she laced every note with meaning and strong storytelling. Spinn’s powerful lyrics told a story. She managed to inject every note with a distinct feeling, which only elevated her performance. Even when covering “Better Off Dead” by Sleeping With Sirens, she pulled from her own connection and love of the song to bring her version to life. Her voice was powerful and beautiful. It filled the room with ease. Whether you were in the very front or the very back, Spinn sounded just as good.

Spinn also looked incredibly comfortable on stage, showing no signs of nerves. She moved about the small stage like she owned it, making eye contact with all parts of the crowd. She spoke to everyone in between sets like they are old friends. She laughed, danced around and left us all under the impression that she was having the time of her life. Her essence was as if she were born to perform. There was nowhere else she would rather be. The stage is her home. 

Her energy transferred out to the crowd, which is key for a successful opening act. Especially as the very first act of the night. Sometimes, the crowd can be small or low energy. However, this crowd was with her the entire time. People were singing along to the lyrics, dancing, swaying and overall just having a good time. You could tell some attendees were already fans, but I think some may have left as one.

She also did a fantastic job planning out the setlist. Every song flowed nicely into the next. There wasn’t a song that sounded out of place. They all had a similar alt-rock vibe with honest lyrics. You could tell she picked the songs that showed off who she was as an artist. They ranged from one of her first releases “happy ending” to her newest release “start again”, which allowed for the audience to get a look into her journey as a songwriter. It was a great peek into her career in only a short amount of time. 

All in all, Bailey Spinn was the perfect way to get the night started. She brought the energy, vocals, storytelling, emotion, and confidence to the Roxy stage. The goal of any artist is to enrapture the crowd from the first note to the very last and Spinn succeeded in that goal. Her set may have been short, but I know it would be no different if she returned with a longer set, especially knowing that some of the people in the crowd checked out more of her music after the show. Who knows? A Bailey Spinn headliner may be coming to Ohio soon.
