Sadye is taking all her secrets straight to hell.
The alt-pop songstress released her latest single “Keep It to Myself” on July 28. Produced by Slush Puppy, “Keep It to Myself” pulses with ethereal synth and addictive, driving bass. If the song’s start-stop intro and pounding percussion doesn’t get you into a hazy house party groove, its pounding percussion will.
From the jump, Sadye’s lack of real investment in an unrewarding relationship is sharp and clear. The way she sings the first line, “don’t worry, I won’t tell anybody how good you are at fucking…me over,” is brilliantly tongue-in-cheek. Described by Sadye as “the fuckboy circus anthem of my dreams,” this is a track about every guy who’s ever turned off his location before going to a girl’s house. Sadye makes it clear she knows exactly which cards to play with lyrics like, “I’ll pretend that I don’t know you/if and when I see you out.”
“Keep It to Myself” also cleverly answers the question of why some women keep going back to partners who treat them like secrets: sometimes, the rush of sneaking around is so all-encompassing it’s easy to get stuck in a fantasy. It also helps if that person is good in bed: “you can pour me one more shot/we can get naked on your floor.”
Sadye’s sarcasm and effortless charm takes her power back from whatever loser guy treated her like a dirty little secret. The tables have well and truly turned, even if no one will ever know.
“Keep It To Myself” is now available on all major streaming services. Check out the lyric video below!
